Bournemouth welcomes Flotsam and Jetsam to land train fleet
Named in a competition, land trains Flotsam and Jetsam have now joined Bournemouth's train fleet and their winning names were chosen from over 600 entries.
With over 600 entries, the Bournemouth Tourism’s seafront team carefully sieved through an array of fantastic names until they found the winning pair: Flotsam and Jetsam.
Luke Watkins from Bournemouth’s seafront team said: “We had some really fun and inspiring entries. It was tricky trying to pick the winning names, but Flotsam and Jetsam worked well as a pair and it’s great to have a maritime theme in the fleet.”
To celebrate the newly named arrivals, the competition winner Andrew Langley attended a formal presentation with The Worshipful The Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth Councillor Lawrence Williams and Mrs Elaine Williams at Pier Approach.
Andrew Langley travelled all the way from Harpenden with his wife Suzie to see the newly named trains. He said, “It was a real thrill to win and a bit of a shock. I thought my wife was joking when she told me our names had been chosen! We’re not from Bournemouth, but we’ve holidayed here for more than 18 years and we always take the land train – we get a day ticket so we can travel along the prom with our two boys. This is really exciting for us and we can’t wait to stay in the new beach lodges!”
