Christmas officially kicks off this Friday, 18 November with a fun-filled musical extravaganza at Pier Approach thanks to Bournemouth’s Coastal Business Improvement District (BID).
At 6.15pm children from SBLAS (Shining Bright Like a Star) Performing Arts School will be singing Christmas songs. And from 6.30pm, those charming Ugly Sisters, David Ball and Michael Chance – stars of this year’s Bournemouth Pavilion pantomime, Cinderella – will be welcoming the crowds.
The event will also feature 2015 X Factor finalist, Max Stone, singing a number of seasonal classics as well as his own material.
At around 7.15pm, the Mayor of Bournemouth with Max and the Ugly Sisters will begin the countdown to a light show and closing beach firework display.
Stefan Krause, Coastal BID Manager, enthused: “The seafront businesses have rallied up in partnership with the Coastal BID and Bournemouth Tourism to celebrate the beginning of the festive season by expanding the Christmas experience from the town centre and coastal villages to the rejuvenated Pier Approach.”
Visitors to the resort’s Grade II listed Victorian gardens will be able to enjoy an illuminated stroll to and from Pier Approach from dusk on Friday, as the gardens twinkle and glow with fairy light wraps on selected trees and snowflake projections along the walkways.
Steve Hughes, Town Centre BID Manager, said: “We have worked really hard with our partners to put on a Christmas that has something for everyone – illuminated gardens, huge outdoor ice-rink, popular Snow Globe and for the first time a Nutcracker Trail around the town. With our great shops, bars, restaurants and attractions, Bournemouth really is the place to be this Christmas.”
