A son who was ‘truly touched by the love and support’ shown to his dad at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital has raised over £700 for the ward that cared for him.
Kevin Hill took on the 63-mile Fleet to Brighton bike challenge as a way of thanking staff on Ward 10 who cared for his dad during chemotherapy.
The cycle challenge was the first fundraising event that Kevin, who described himself as an ‘occasional rider’, has taken part in. He said: “The nurses and staff have been absolutely amazing and I have been truly touched by the love and support they showed while going about their daily work.
“The empathy shown to all patients was amazing and my dad was not only put at ease, but supported through all stages of treatment with what I feel was above and beyond treatment.”
Lindsey Sturman, Bournemouth Hospital Charity Fundraising Manager, said: “We are delighted that Kevin was so impressed with the treatment his father received. A 63-mile bike ride is a fantastic challenge to have conquered and we are very grateful for the money he has raised.
“The money will go directly to the ward that treated his father and will benefit other patients in the future.”
The new Jigsaw Building being constructed at RBH will include a Cancer and Blood Disorders Unit. The unit will have private suites which will home a bone marrow room, a private phlebotomy area and treatment rooms for pre-chemotherapy patients and special haematology patients.
