Brothers jailed for spate of vehicle crime in Dorset and Wiltshire
Two brothers have been jailed after committing a series of thefts from motor vehicles across Dorset and Wiltshire totting up 104 offences in three months.
Lenny Wells, 30 and of Eyres Way in Salisbury and Edward Wells, aged 28 and of Lynch Road in Mere, were each jailed for 44 months at Salisbury Crown Court on 3 August after pleading guilty to conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles.
A total of 104 offences occurred between 1 November 2016 and 31 January 2017, with 33 committed in Dorset and 71 in Wiltshire.
They were arrested on 27 January after police officers stopped their vehicle near to Hardy’s Monument near Portesham in Dorset.
The duo targeted various beauty spots across the two counties. They would break into vehicles and steal items including handbags, purses, wallets, cash and jewellery.
Enquiries were carried out by officers in Wiltshire and Dorset.
Police Sergeant Jamie Clark, of Dorset Police, said: “I wish to thank those members of the public who have assisted the investigation and I am pleased to say that beauty spot thefts have fallen since the pair were imprisoned.
“I would like to remind motorists in Dorset to ensure they do not leave any valuables in their vehicles and remove all items from view. Do not make it easy for thieves such as the Wells brothers to target your vehicle.”
