Pupils from Sylvan Infant School with their published books at Poole Central Library
A group of Year 2 pupils at Sylvan Infant School have become the newest authors in Poole by penning their very own books.
Thirteen pupils, aged 6 and 7, wrote their stories whilst attending a weekly lunchtime writers’ club. Throughout the year the pupils got together to plan, write and edit their stories which has now resulted in a collection of wonderful story books that the children have donated to Poole Central Library.
Ranging from animal to adventure and even disaster stories, the books were presented to Maria Long, Manager of Poole Central Library, who thanked them for this wonderful addition to the children’s book collection.
Angela Wallington, Literacy Coordinator at Sylvan Infant School, said: “I am delighted with the work that the children have produced and I know they are proud of themselves too. They have undoubtedly been bitten by the writing bug and have certainly shown themselves to be potential authors of the future.”
Councillor Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous and Sustainable Poole, Borough of Poole, said: “The pupils must be congratulated on their creativity and imagination. We are sure that these delightful books will help inspire other children to create their own stories.”
The story books are being specially displayed in the children’s area of the library and will be prepared for borrowing along with all the other books available for children to enjoy.
