Care homes across Dorset celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
Among the Dorset care homes celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee were those belonging to the not-for-profit charity, Care South.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend was celebrated by Care South with an abundance of food, fun and friendship.
In Gillingham, Fern Brook Lodge kick-started the weekend with a garden party and barbeque officially opened by the new mayor of Gillingham, Sharon Cullingford. A local singer performed classics from the 1950s and 60s.
On the edge of Bournemouth, Talbot View care home hosted its Platinum Jubilee celebrations at local farm community café, Slades. There was a live band alongside dance troops and a bouncy castle.
St Ives House near Ringwood hosted a traditional afternoon tea based on The Queen’s favourite foods. The home’s chefs sourced ingredients from those that have received the Royal Warrant from The Queen, so everyone had a taste of her Majesty’s select ingredients. Residents, families, friends, and staff came together to celebrate the momentous occasion.
Elizabeth House care home located in Poole hosted a garden party with two special guests: the deputy mayor of Poole, Julie Bagwell and actor and director, Sasha Paul. The event started with a Royal Jubilee quiz. Staff at Elizabeth House gave out wildflower seeds to all guests and each packet had a number on the back where guests could win little prizes, with the star prize being a fluffy corgi. Julie and Sasha read poems and joined in with the National Anthem before giving the Queen three cheers. To finish the day, friends and families were treated to a buffet which included scones with jam and cream.
Les Johnson, regional support manager, commented: “Everyone had a marvellous day celebrating at Elizabeth House. The deputy mayor, Julie was an inspiration and has left a lasting positive impact on the home, and everyone is still talking of her visit to this day. I would like to extend our warmest and sincere thanks to Julie and Sash. Everyone is already looking forward to the next visit at Elizabeth House.”
Wickmeads, Queensmead at Castle Dene, Fairlawn, Alexandra House, Dorset House, Buxton House and Maiden Castle House, all Dorset-based Care South homes, also took part in the royal celebrations with afternoon teas, garden parties and live entertainment spread across the week.
