Carols in Wimborne’s Cornmarket raises nearly £1,000
The event once again proved hugely popular with crowds filling the Cornmarket and raising funds for the Minster and the mayor’s charities.
The weather was kind to Wimborne Minster’s Carols in the Cornmarket this year – in 2024, it had to be held in the church because of rain.
The area was filled to capacity for the 19th time. The annual event, organised by Anthony Oliver and Hilda Butler, filled the air with Christmas music.
The Rev Steve Atkins, who has recently been licensed as an Associate Priest attached to The Minster and the surrounding villages, opened the evening with prayer.
The Mayor of Wimborne Minster, Cllr Jeff Hart, read a lesson from St. Luke’s Gospel.
The singing of the Carols was accompanied by the Broadstone Community Concert Band under the direction of Damon Corio and the Minster Choristers under the direction of Colin Davey, organist and director of the choirs at The Minster.
The event was sponsored by The Wimborne BID and Optique 2000.
A collection taken for Wimborne Minster Funds and the mayor’s charities raised £974.
