Over 20 charities and good causes received cheques totalling almost £20,000 thanks to Bournemouth’s Freemasons.
Town mayor Cllr John Adams attended the cheque giveaway evening held at Freemasons’ Hall in Knole Road, Boscombe.
Each year individual lodges as well as raising money for national charities and campaigns, support local groups.
This year lodges that meet at Knole Road donated £18,048 to 25 charities and good causes.
The Freemasonry in the Community event also heard representatives of those charities explain what they do and why the money is so useful.
Attending the event were a number of Masonic dignitaries including Graham Williams, Deputy Provincial Grandmaster of the Province of Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and Geoff Tuck, Assistant Provincial Grandmaster.
Those charities who received cheques were: Age UK, Barton Sea Scouts, Bournemouth Bach Choir, Bournemouth Heart Club, Cancer Research UK, Cherry Tree Nursery, Christchurch and District Scouts, Crumbs, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Ferndown Stroke Club, Gulleys Place, Headway Dorset, Julia’s House, Knoticat – Sports Forum for the Disabled, Langside School, Macmillan Caring Locally, Michael’s House, Miss Bush Riding, Parkinson UK Ferndown, Parkinson UK Bournemouth, Poole and District Children’s Cancer, Rett UK, Stroke Association, Willow Foundation, Younger People’s Group.
