A generous donation from the League of Friends at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital has funded new trollies for ED which will store vital equipment, making it easily accessible and saving precious time in an emergency.
One resus trolley, costing over £1,000, has been purchased for the resuscitation (resus) area while nine caretray trollies will be positioned next to beds in the majors area of ED.
The resus trolley stores paediatric equipment for children who come into the department and has colour coded drawers, starting with red for the most important equipment.
Laura Northeast, ED Senior Sister, said: “We are really grateful to the League of Friends for funding the trolley. It has allowed us to simplify the way we access the equipment needed and saves valuable time when every second counts.”
Rohana Lustig, ED Deputy General Manager, added: “The new trolley is a fantastic addition to the vital equipment our team needs in order to save lives every day. Over 3,900 patients are treated in resus each year and this new piece of equipment will help the team who are treating some of the hospitals most acutely ill patients.”
The caretray trollies, totalling £3,600, store vital equipment for admitting patients and provide basic nursing care items such as patient property bags, gowns, blood taking equipment and admission paperwork. The trollies save nursing staff vital time as the items are now in the same place, right by the patient.
Iain Glover, League of Friends Secretary, said: “The trollies are the latest equipment funded through raised funds at the hospital and shows that the public’s donations are going to areas that will benefit patients directly.”
