Charity quiz raises funds for the Royal Bournemouth Hospital
The oncology unit at the Jigsaw building will benefit from a quiz organised by University Hospitals Dorset’s main construction contractor.
Patients across Dorset with cancer will benefit from a quiz organised by University Hospitals Dorset’s main construction contractor, Integrated Health Projects (IHP).
IHP and NHS staff came together for the evening at The Village Hotel in Bournemouth to raise funds to support oncology teams in the Jigsaw Unit at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
More than 90 quiz lovers raised a total of £2,075 between donations on the night and to IHP’s online fundraiser.
The event took a different shape to most quiz nights with a construction element featuring a ‘tower’ Jenga challenge. The overall winners were a team from the subcontractors WP Portsmouth called the ‘Beasts of the Breast’ who received certificates and a selection of wines.
IHP project director, Bruce Preston, said: “This evening was a significant celebration of the progress IHP have made with the transformation team on the BEACH Building over the last four years, with this being the third quiz night.”
IHP social value manager, Helen Denham, said: “We are delighted the evening has raised over £2,000 that is to be directed to the UHD Cancer Support teams. This is especially rewarding as we have colleagues and friends who have and are benefiting from their awesome care.”
In recent years, the trust’s main contractors have raised a total of more than £4,828 for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. This has gone towards a new robotic tilt table for patients recovering from a stroke.
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity corporate fundraiser, Hayley Harris, said:
“It’s always amazing to see how the IHP team make this quiz night like no other. It is so much fun and behind it all is their passion to support patients across different areas of the trust in new ways each year. Not only are they working hard to build our new fantastic BEACH Building that will help transform care for Dorset, they have nailed their fundraising support for our staff, patients and people in the local community that depend on the cancer care provided at our hospitals.”
