A special cake created by Haskins Garden Centre pastry chefs Lucy Watkins and Kirsty Webster raised £269 in just one day. Visitors to the centre were eager to support the Diverse Abilities Plus Great Dorset Bake Sale fundraising initiative by purchasing the £1 tickets.
A customer from Poole won the multi-layered cake. More staff at the centre are making cake creations over the week in a bid to raise more money for Diverse Abilities which is Haskins charity of the year. The fundraising wishing well is dedicated to the charity, which provides invaluable care and support for children with disabilities through a specialist school, respite home, and youth club, and play sessions and activities at weekends and school holidays.
The charity works with people throughout their lives through providing an adults day centre and specially adapted supported living accommodation. Combined this work supports nearly 500 families in Dorset. To support this work the charity must raise nearly ½ million pounds in 2013.
