Pupils from Verwood CofE First School visited Verwood Town Council this week to see how the council operates, ask the Mayor Cllr Simon Gibson questions and try on the mayoral robes.
Simon has invited all the schools in the parish to visit the chambers as he feels it is very important to engage with young people and let them see what goes on in the town. He said “Inviting the schools into the council chambers for a visit is great fun, pupils for Verwood First School came prepared with some great questions and it was a pleasure to show them the workings and the history of the council in Verwood.”
Everyone had the chance to try on the Mayoral robes and chain of office and pose for a photograph. Town Clerk Val Bright gave the pupils and teachers a tour of the building and talked about how meeting are run. The Mayor then gave them a talk about the twinning with Verwoods twin town Champtoceaux and Liederbach
Simon said ‘It is vitally important that young people are involved in the local community, they are the future of the town.”
Verwood First school’s visit follows a visit by Trinity First School. The Mayor looks forward to welcoming pupils from Hillside First School next week.
