The following statement has been issued by Yellow Buses about its diversion of a service due to missiles being thrown in Christchurch.
Andrew Smith, managing director of Yellow Buses, said: “Following another incident of a missile being thrown at one of our buses we have made the decision to divert the 1a service in Somerford after 8pm each evening.
“The service will instead use the Christchurch Bypass from Purewell Cross to the Sainsbury’s supermarket at Somerford.
“It is the fourth such incident in recent weeks and our priority must be for the safety of our passengers and staff.
“On this latest occasion on Monday 4 April the window on the top deck smashed after a full house brick was thrown at it. Through sheer good fortune no one was injured.
“We will review the decision on a weekly basis and will be liaising with the police in order to give them every assistance in finding those responsible.
“We never want to withdraw services and do so only as a last resort, but after four incidents of missiles being thrown at our buses we have to act.
“We would urge anybody who knows who is responsible for these attacks to contact the police immediately.”
