Christchurch Bypass to be closed temporarily
The A35 Christchurch Bypass is to close for essential maintenance for a short period of time during March.
The A35 Christchurch Bypass is to be closed for a short period this month due to essential maintenance of the Mude Culvert (a covered channel), which crosses beneath the Bypass.
The closure will take place from 7.30pm on 14 March until 6am on 17 March between Purewell Cross (Stony Lane) Roundabout and Somerford Roundabout.
However, if there is bad weather the closure will take place from 21 March until 24 March or 28 March until 31 March.
The work will involve removing the existing surfacing to apply a new waterproof membrane, followed by replacement of the surfacing. Additionally, a crack in the covered channel will be sealed.
Diversion routes during the weekend closure will be signed as follows:
- For A35 Christchurch Bypass, via B3059 Purewell Cross Road and B3059 Somerford Road.
- For Salisbury Road, via B3347 Stony Lane and Martins Hill Lane.
Cllr Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy, said: “These essential works on Mude Culvert will help maintain the long-term safety and resilience of the Christchurch Bypass.
“While this may cause some temporary inconvenience, we ask motorists to plan their journey in advance, and we appreciate their patience as this necessary maintenance is completed.”
