Pancake Day on Tuesday 9 February will again see the cobbled area of Church Street in Christchurch transformed into a race track as chefs, business people and local celebrities grab their frying pans and toss their way to victory in pancake races.
The Christchurch Food Festival is holding the pancake races on Shrove Tuesday in front of the historic Priory Church to benefit its charity, Christchurch Food Festival Education Trust. Races start at 10.30am.
Building on the success of last year’s event, the Food Festival committee hopes to encourage more teams to enter this year to raise more money. Entrance fee for teams of four is just £20 while individual chefs are also being encouraged to enter for £5.
Vicki Hallam, chairman of the Food Festival committee, said: “This is now becoming a great annual event. If last year’s races are anything to go by we’ll see a lot of competitive racing – and possibly also a bit of cheating! Whatever happens it’s sure to be very entertaining. We’d love even more teams to get involved this year to join in the fun.”
Any teams wishing to enter the pancake races should contact the organiser Cheryl Davies by emailing cheryl@captainsclubhotel.com.
This year’s Food Festival weekend takes place on 7 and 8 May in the High Street and on Christchurch Quay. More information can be found at www.christchurchfoodfest.co.uk.
