Christchurch leisure centre to receive major boost
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council plans to invest £1.8 million into Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre to create two brand-new purpose-built studios.
Exciting plans to improve access to fitness and leisure facilities in Christchurch are set to be discussed by councillors.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has proposed investing £1.8 million into Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre in Christchurch to create two brand-new purpose-built studios.
Councillors will discuss the plans at BCP Council’s Cabinet meeting on 14 January, with a report outlining a planned timeframe for the improvements which, subject to planning permission, would aim to be complete by July 2027.
The investment aims to deliver improved health and wellbeing for residents by more opportunities for people of all ages to stay active. It will also improve accessibility for people with different abilities and special needs, and will offer long-term community benefits by strengthening Two Riversmeet as a hub for local life, helping people connect through shared activities. By increasing capacity and enhancing the leisure offer, the project is expected to boost membership and generate income.
BCP Councillor Richard Herrett, portfolio holder for destination, leisure and commercial operations, said: “Two Riversmeet is already a fantastic example of how locally managed services meet community needs — helping connect people and encouraging active, healthy lifestyles.
“These proposals would allow us to go even further and are a significant investment in Christchurch and the health and happiness of our residents.
“By creating modern, accessible spaces for fitness and leisure, we’ll be able to offer more choice and flexibility for residents of all ages and abilities.”
