Regent Centre to reopen from June
The Regent Centre will reopen for cinema in June with a multi award winning line up, and live shows planned from July.
The Regent Centre in Christchurch will be opening its doors again from 4 June with a 2021 BAFTA and Golden Globe winning line up of films. It is planned that live shows will return from 29 July.
Nomadland, the multi award winning film starring Frances McDormand, will be the first screening in the recently refurbished theatre, complete with comfy seating and new surround sound.
Sound of Metal, another hit on the Golden Globes, BAFTA and Oscar circuit this year, will also be playing in the first week. The film stars Riz Ahmed in the lead as a drummer adapting to hearing loss, told in a cinematically unique way.
Families will be able to watch firm favourite Peter Rabbit 2. In the following weeks, the programme will include Olivia Coleman and Sir Antony Hopkins in The Father plus the long-awaited musical In the Heights starring Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The centre is also taking bookings for live shows due to take place from the government roadmap’s Phase 4 onwards, and well into 2022. The opening live show will be the Highcliffe Charity Players with Treasure Island.
As a community-based company, their opening night includes a thank you offer to all front-line workers and their families with tickets for £9.99. This offer can be redeemed in advance only online (max 6 per booking) or by phone.
The Regent Centre general manager said: “Our Christmas opening went really well so we were understandably disappointed when the time came to close again. In a survey to the near 3,000 visitors during that month, the overwhelming feedback was that our customers felt safe, relaxed and immersed in a sense of normality again for the first time in many months. We’re delighted that subject to the next two government phases running as predicted, we’ll be able resume performances again and slowly reintroduce other services within the building as the rules become clearer. It’s inevitable that there will be a period of adjustment as we all get used to new ways of enjoying indoor entertainment for a while, but we have a very detail-oriented team on board to make sure that everyone has a great time.”
Tickets are on sale now at www.regentcentre.co.uk or by calling the box office between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday on 01202 499199.
