Join Swanage Railway volunteers in a festive first next month – an atmospheric evening Christmas carol steam train to Corfe Castle complete with a members of a brass band and a ladies’ choir.
Featuring brass players from the Swanage Town Band and the ladies’ Harmony Rocks Choir, the special train runs on Thursday, 5 December and departs Swanage station at 6.30pm for the two-hour festive first event.
There will be half an hour carol singing sessions at festively decorated Harman’s Cross and Corfe Castle stations – as well as at Swanage station on the steam train’s return at 8.30pm – with carol sheets being provided so passengers can sing along.
The festively decorated five-coach steam train will include a buffet selling refreshments – including sherry and mince pies. There will also be mulled wine for sale in the new building on the platform at Harman’s Cross station.
Passengers can only board the special fund-raising train at Swanage station where they will be greeted by members from the brass section of the Swanage Town Band playing seasonal music.
Featuring a complete round trip of the Swanage Railway to Norden station, the special event is being staged by a dedicated group of Swanage Railway volunteers which maintains and develops Harman’s Cross station, a facility that has been built from scratch since 1988.
Swanage Railway general manager Richard Jones said: “It should be a very evocative and enjoyable event because steam trains at night are very atmospheric. When you couple that with Christmas carol singing at Harman’s Cross and Corfe Castle stations, you have an evocative and unforgettable event that’s the perfect start to December’s Christmas preparations.”
