Cinema club returns to Wimborne for second year of screenings
High Contrast Cinema, a volunteer-run project which screens classic movies and film noir, is returning to The Allendale Centre this month.
A volunteer-run community cinema project returns to The Allendale Centre in Wimborne on 13 September 2024 to begin a second year of film screenings.
High Contrast Cinema launched in September 2023 to encourage the local community to revisit classic movies and celebrate films that have shaped imaginations for generations. The project screened eight films between September and June, including ‘The Maltese Falcon’, ‘The Big Heat’ and ’12 Angry Men’.
The new season of film screenings will begin with Alfred Hitchcock’s 1950 thriller, ‘Strangers on a Train’. High Contrast Cinema hope to continue to build their audience of local film fans who all have a shared love and appreciation of movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Matt Clark of the High Contrast team says: “We exceeded our expectations over the last 12 months and have been thrilled to show films like ‘Double Indemnity’ and ‘Sunset Boulevard’ on a big screen to a captivated audience.
“We started off by venturing into the mysterious alleyways and shadowy corners of film noir, and with the support of our regular attendees we hope to continue in our quest to bring films that are both important and entertaining back to a communal setting, many decades after they were first released.”
Regulars to the High Contrast screenings have been able to meet fellow film fans, share their thoughts, and enjoy trailers to forthcoming attractions along with an introduction describing the background and some history for each film. They have recently added a raffle with a prize that ties into the night’s main feature.
The programme for the rest of the year is ‘Strangers On A Train’ (13 September, ‘Suddenly (4 October), The Killers (1 November) and Miracle on 34th Street (1 December). Screenings typically begin at 8pm and tickets cost £8. For more information, visit www.highcontrast.org.
