Clear skies for Sarah’s switch-on in Ferndown
BBC South’s weather presenter Sarah Farmer brought a bright spell to Ferndown on 25 November when she arrived to turn on the Christmas lights.
A huge crowd gathered under the clock tower in Ferndown for the Christmas lights switch-on by BBC South’s weather presenter Sarah Farmer. She was joined by the town crier, Mike Andrews, for the countdown and as Sarah pulled the lever the whole town lit up.
The event with entertainment and a market in Penny’s Walk was organised by Ferndown Rotary Club, Ferndown Chamber of Commerce and Ferndown Town Council.
No stranger to Ferndown, Sarah brought clear skies with her as well as a giant dose of happiness. She said, “I wouldn’t have missed this for the world. It’s exciting to be here. This is my first lights switch-on.”
The day started early with live entertainment, a Christmas market, fairground rides, mulled wine and mince pies. Sarah turned up in the afternoon to join the celebrations, after a short speech, she flicked the switch at around 5pm to loud cheers.
The famous Ferndown chamber giant hamper raffle prizes were won as follows: 1st Mrs Lisa Brown, 2nd Matthew Stickley, 3rd Louise Hartley.
