Cliff Richard sends video message to Tuckton care home resident
Superfan Betty, who lives in a Tuckton care home, received a video message from Sir Cliff Richard to mark her 106th birthday.
Sir Cliff Richard sent a video message to a Tuckton care home resident to mark her 106th birthday.
Betty, who lives at Wickmeads care home, could well be Cliff’s oldest fan.
The message was arranged by her daughters, Leonie and Stephanie, and son Richard. Betty’s family joined her for the celebrations which included a party arranged by the care home, where they played the video message to Betty on the ‘Tiny Tablet’, a large interactive screen used by the residents. Local singer, Angus Todd, performed Sir Cliff’s hits, Summer Holiday and The Young Ones, as well as a range of songs from the 1930s to 1960s.
Betty has seen Sir Cliff perform many times over the years, including when his shows have visited Bournemouth, and in her younger years, she travelled abroad to see him take to the stage in Paris and Brussels.
Betty’s daughter, Leonie, said that she was ‘baffled’ by why her mum loves Sir Cliff Richard so much but added that her Mum gets his calendar every year at Christmas.
Betty was born in Birmingham but moved to Aldershot as a child. After school she worked for a gas and electricity company where she met her future husband, Rocky. She later worked for the army in their parcel processing depot before taking a break to welcome her children. Afterwards, she worked in admin and later made curtains for Mostyns curtains and soft furnishings shop in Boscombe.
Leonie believes her mum has reached the age of 106 through staying active throughout her life. Leonie said that the family never owned a car, leading to them walking everywhere. Betty has lived at Wickmeads for three years.
Tracey Walker, home manager said: “It was lovely to make Betty feel happy and cared for on her birthday and to treat her to a party to celebrate turning 106. Betty has many friends at Wickmeads and so they were pleased and very surprised to see that she had received a message from Cliff Richard himself. At Care South, it’s so important to us that the residents continue to pursue their interests and passions, particularly on their birthdays, where we like to celebrate it with the things that they enjoy.”
