Clifftop Music Festival at Highcliffe defies the rain to rock on
Locals ignored the wet weather to attend the retro festival celebrating the 1970s held on Wharncliffe Road.
Despite heavy rainfall on 7 September, the crowds attending the celebration of the 1970s on Wharncliffe Road didn’t let the wet weather dampen their mood.
Many attendees made the extra effort and dressed in their best retro fashion to suit the occasion.
The event was dry for the first few hours, but when the heavens opened, attendees simply opened their umbrellas or donned rain ponchos and carried on dancing to the music.
Among the acts were musician Susie Kimber and her soul band, Bournemouth dance troupe Jitterbug Jive, and headline tribute act The Sound of the O’Jays.
For children, there were fairground rides, facepainting, a Punch and Judy show, and baby goats.
There were a wide range of stalls selling sweets and toys or raising money for local causes, and food and drink vendors kept the crowd fed.
It was a delightful day. This was the second year of the Cliff Top Music Festival and here’s hoping it will return next year to entertain the local area.
Mandy Polkey, managing director of festival organisers Stir Events, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support from our amazing team of volunteers and local groups, including the Highcliffe Action Team, Highcliffe Rotary, Westbourne Rotary, Highcliffe and Walkford Parish Councillors, New Forest Litter Pickers, Highcliffe Scouts, and many local residents.
“The Stir Events CIC team and our volunteers worked tirelessly to make the Cliff Top Music Festival a great success, despite the heavy rainfall. It was heartwarming to see visitors embracing the weather, dancing in their vibrant 1970s outfits with umbrellas in hand.
“The performances were phenomenal, with the artists giving it their all, and the energy culminated in a fantastic headlining performance from The Sound of the O’Jays. A huge thank you to our sponsors, especially the Highcliffe and Walkford Parish Council, for their unwavering support. This event truly captured the spirit of our community, and we couldn’t have done it without all of you. Thank you!”
