The work is planned to begin on 10 March 2014 and is likely to last a week.
The retaining wall was first constructed in the early 1970s when the Park was created from reclaimed land.
Last maintained in the 1980s, the rocks have started to spread towards the sea and this situation has been made worse by the recent storms. The maintenance will see this being built back up using the existing rocks with some in-filing of new rocks, where necessary.
During the course of the works large machinery will be operating in the area. Access along the path will be maintained but at times will be restricted. People are asked to take care and ensure dogs are kept away from the work area.
Councillor Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous and Sustainable Poole, Borough of Poole, said: “It is vital we preserve the coastline as well as ensuring the stability of our existing sea defences to safeguard the borough. The recent storms we have experienced over the past two months shows just how important our flood defences are to the town. It is imperative that we manage these defences appropriately and continue to invest in them for the future.”
The maintenance works will be carried out by local contractors Jenkins Marine.
