Thriving community sports club, Parley Sports, have a chance of winning a much need £100,000 in a national public vote to improve their facilities. The sports club was just two weeks from closure in the summer before members stepped in. With over 40 sports teams supported at the site, including boys, girls, male, female and disability, the club is truly a community asset.
The fortunes of the Sports Club have already changed significantly, following the announcement of being Budweiser Club Futures programme winners for the South West of England. As South West winners, Parley are now one of eight clubs in the country vying for a £100,000 ‘supergrant’ to transform their club and secure its long term future.
The ambition of Budweiser Club Futures has been to help clubs to help themselves, with the grant recipients using the funding to improve their facilities and make their club more financially sustainable. Parley Sports Club are urging the whole of the South West to rally together and vote. Voting is open until 28 February 2014, with voters asked to search ‘Budweiser Club Futures’ on Facebook and then vote for Parley Sports.
Simon Jordan, Chairman of Parley Sports Club, said: “Having been made aware that the clubhouse was two weeks away from closure, we had to act quickly to avoid having a huge amount of disappointed players. To have a shot at winning another £100,000 is beyond anything we could have wished for at the start of this season in order to be able to give the community the facilities it deserves.”
