Annie Cruickshank hopes her shot of Durdle Door will make the cut
Amateur photographers are being asked to submit their best photographs of Dorset to help the county’s cancer sufferers.
Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF) is inviting the public to send in their shots for the chance of featuring in its 2017 charity calendar.
Pictures can be taken in any season, but must have been taken in Dorset.
The calendar will go on sale in September 2016 and all money raised will be used to help local people suffering from cancer.
DCCF was founded in 2012 by Eve Went, Leslie-May Harrison and Pam Jeffries from Poole to help cancer patients meet the cost of everything from transport to and from hospital, to childcare and much-needed short breaks.
Chris Thomas, chairman of DCCF said: “As well as a huge physical and emotional toll, cancer can also exert financial pressures on sufferers and their families.
“With the help of our supporters and fundraisers we organise coffee mornings, balls, auctions and a host of other events to fund much-needed grants to cancer sufferers.”
He continued: “This will be DCCF’s first charity calendar and we are hoping people who enjoy taking photographs allow us to use their favourite pictures for a very good cause.”
Bournemouth Arts University student Annie Cruickshank has already submitted a photograph for the calendar.
The 18-year-old from Lilliput, Poole, said: “My picture is of Durdle Door and was taken in September 2014. It has a fairytale feel to it and I hope it will be chosen for the calendar as it would be great to know one of my photographs was helping people with cancer.”
Diane Bird of DCCF said: “Most of us have taken a shot we are proud of at some time, maybe of a windswept beach in winter, a favourite landmark in summer or a breathtaking view in autumn.
“Thirteen winning images will be chosen for the calendar – one for each month in 2017 and one for the calendar’s front cover – and the photographer’s name will feature beside each image.”
The winning images will be selected by the award-winning, former Daily Echo picture editor Paul Collins and the calendars will be available for sale in September 2016.
People are asked to email their photographs to: info@dccf.co.uk no later than Friday August 12, 2016. The images should be high resolution, at least 5MB in size and should be accompanied by the photographer’s name and phone number.
