Council grants planning permission to 280-home scheme for Gillingham
280 homes are to be built on Ham Farm near Gillingham after Dorset Council granted planning permission to the development.
Nearly 300 homes are to be built in Gillingham after Dorset Council granted planning permission to the proposed development on Tuesday 4 June.
A total of 280 new homes are to be built on the site of Ham Farm, west of Shaftesbury Road. More than a third of the new properties are earmarked for affordable housing, with 50 houses assigned as affordable rent and 50 to be offered through shared ownership. These include one, two and three-bed properties.
As part of the planning permission, the developers Places for People will need to contribute to the area’s local infrastructure, including making improvements to Shaftesbury Road and making financial contributions to Gillingham Library, the medical centre and local schools, among others.
Darren Dancey, Regional Managing Director at Places for People said: “We’re delighted in the response to our recent proposal to bring more much-needed new homes to Gillingham.
“We know that a shortage of affordable housing for local people remains an acute issue across the South West and are pleased that we are now able to start work on bringing forward these new homes for the community.”
The 280 homes are just the first phase of development, with outline permission granted for up to 961 homes.
