A 93-year-old World War II veteran who uses a mobility scooter has been mugged in Ferndown.
Jim Day, who served in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines at Dunkirk and Burma was travelling home from the shops on his scooter when he was grabbed from behind and pushed to the floor. The offender then took cash from his wallet and fled the scene.
The incident happened at the junction of West Moors Road and Wimborne Road East at around 3pm on Sunday 1 November 2015.
Mr Day, who did not require medical treatment, said: “For anyone to do this to an able-bodied person is bad enough, but to do it to me is despicable.”
The offender is described as a white man, aged in his early 30s, around five feet 10 inches tall, of stocky build and was clean shaven. He was wearing a black bomber jacket and jeans.
DC Ben Griffin, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was a cowardly attack on an elderly gentleman who was making his way back to his home after a trip to the shops.
“I am appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident to contact me, in confidence, on 101.”
