Christchurch is a very safe place but, in order to keep it that way, a number of organisations in the Borough are holding crime prevention street corner meetings in the coming weeks.
Residents are invited to come along and speak to the police, council and Home Watch and get advice at the following meetings:
- Friday 6 December 10am to 12 noon and 4pm to 6pm at Wortley Road car park
- Wednesday 11 December 10am to 12 noon and 4pm to 6pm at Stewarts Garden Centre
- Tuesday 17 December 10am to 12 noon and 5pm to 7pm at All Saints Church Hall, Mudeford
- Saturday 14 December 10am to 1pm in Highcliffe High Street
Inspector Lance Cliff from Christchurch Police said: “We are very lucky to live in a low crime area but, that said, we must not become complacent, as we do still have some crimes. Most of these are ‘spur of the moment’ actions, often taking advantage of an open window or valuables left on display. Some of the burglaries we have experienced in Christchurch this year have been to insecure properties or properties where people are away.
“Residents need to make it as difficult as possible for thieves and ensure they take steps to secure their property. If you are going away why not ask a neighbour to ‘look after’ your home by keeping a close eye on it and reporting anything or anyone that looks suspicious or out of place. The Safer Neighbourhood Teams are here to help and would be happy to visit your home to offer crime prevention advice and improve the security of your home and belongings.”
