Daleks reveal best-kept secret in Bournemouth
Behind a screen of trees on Christchurch Road in Bournemouth lies a mysterious hall – long since hidden – but the Daleks are there, in plain sight.
Deveron Hall is about to reveal its most extraordinary secrets and one of them is already easily visible: a row of four Daleks atop the entrance.
Living the Dream – an immersive experience unlike anything Bournemouth, or possibly anywhere, has ever seen before – will be launched in the hall this August.
The hall was once a host to civil dignitaries and is cloaked in stories the town never officially recorded.
After decades of silence, fate intervened when a visiting couple, Paul and Helen, were inexplicably drawn into the car park of the unassuming location during a trip to see family.
With three vintage Rolls Royces parked nearby and an original Police Box standing guard, the couple, compelled by impulse, rang the doorbell, and were welcomed in as if expected.
What they discovered defied explanation.
Paul, one half of the creative duo behind immersive entertainment company Showon Ltd said: “Stepping inside was like walking into a dream. Nothing made sense, but everything had its place.
“The hall is a living, breathing museum of vintage animatronics, a labyrinth of rooms overflowing with Hollywood set pieces and iconic memorabilia. Every corner holds something that shouldn’t be there – yet somehow belongs.”
Helen said: “It felt like being awake, but somehow still in a dream.”
Now, in collaboration with the hall’s enigmatic managers, the Showon company is opening this extraordinary space to the public in a bold new venture: Living the Dream.
Launching this August, Living the Dream invites visitors into a fantastical world, where reality blurs with imagination. Timeless film relics, surreal settings, and interactive installations come together in a one-of-a-kind theatrical journey through the hall’s storied past and dreamlike present.
