‘Dinosaur’ to be paraded through Wimborne Minster town
Ahead of Wimborne Minster Flower Festival at the end of September, Demelza and her ‘baby’ will be paraded through Wimborne.
A dinosaur and her baby will be amongst many other ‘creatures’ which will process through Wimborne on Saturday 20 September.
The procession will leave Park Lane at 10.30am and take a route via Willow Walk just before the start of the Wimborne Food Festival and continue into the Hanham Road South Car Park into Mill Lane and the High Street before entering the Minster Grounds, ready to be assembled for the Flower Festival taking place in the Minster from Friday 26 to Monday 29 September. Most of the ‘creatures’ and characters have been made out of papier mache by a team of volunteers who have been working on them over the past year.
The parade will be led by the rector of Wimborne Minster the Rev Canon Andrew Rowland, accompanied by the town crier of Wareham Jacquie Hall standing in for Wimborne’s town crier Chris Brown. As well as the 16-foot long dinosaur Demelza and her baby Dino, the parade will include Mary Anning the fossil hunter, Isaac Gulliver, the famous Dorset Smuggler, Corfe Castle and Miranda the Mermaid.
The Flower Festival is being set up on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 September in time for the Preview Evening on Thursday, for which tickets including light refreshments are still available. Entry to the four-day festival opens on Friday 26 September at 10am. All proceeds from the Festival will go towards a proposed ramp and improved steps to make the historic Minster Church readily accessible to everyone.
