Everyone at SWOP, the registered charity project at Cherry Tree Nursery, in Northbourne is very concerned that their greenhouse shading screens became twisted and broken over the weekend, perhaps due to the wind.
The screens are used to shade all the cuttings and seedlings from the sun, and prevent them becoming scorched.
The damage is going to be very expensive to repair, as the whole mechanism may need to be replaced, and the project, which provides sheltered work rehabilitation to adults with mental illness, is urgently looking for donations to cover this cost.
Trevor Randall, Nursery Propagator and Greenhouse Manager, said today, “I am absolutely devastated, because I am losing so many plants.”
SWOP is a Sheltered Work Opportunities Project. Cherry Tree Nursery promotes horticulture as a therapeutic activity and as a means of rehabilitation for those with mental health problems.
