Display yellow ribbons to remember loved ones
You don’t have to find ‘an old oak tree’ in order to display a yellow ribbon to remember someone who has died.
Each year Forest Holme marks National Hospice Awareness Month by inviting members of the public to dedicate a ribbon to a loved one – whether they attended the hospice or not – to be displayed in the Poole’s hospice’s garden.
However, under the current Government guidelines, the hospice is unable to host the event on 18 June this year, so instead wants to expand the yellow ribbon display out into the local community and encourage people to create visual reminders of the love and fond memories they have of partners, family members and friends.
Paul Tucker, fundraising manager at Forest Holme, explains, “Tie A Yellow Ribbon is a very special date in the hospice calendar as it brings the community together in joint celebration of our loved ones who are absent in body, but remain with us in spirit. It is open to anyone who has lost a loved one and wants to make a dedication in memory of them, irrespective of whether they were at Forest Holme.”
The hospice has produced a ribbon template that this available to download on its website, along with a step by step guide, and they are asking the public to share their photographs via its social media pages.
