Dog surfing and paddleboarding at Poole beach this weekend
Dogmasters, which takes place at Branksome Dene Chine Beach this Sunday 25 July, is the UK’s only dog surfing and paddleboard championships.
Dogs like riding on surfboards and paddleboards too – and if you don’t believe it – pop down to Branksome Dene Chine Beach this Sunday 25 July.
Now in its third year Dogmasters, the UK’s only dog surfing and paddleboard championships will bring together lovers of dogs and the sea for a fun-packed day of surfing and paddle-boarding competitions, as well as music, stalls, food, drink and more. From sausage dogs on surf boards to pups who love SUPS, the competition is open to all thrill-seeking canines across the country and their board masters. The event is also open to spectators who fancy something a bit fun and unique.
Visitors can look forward to a host of activities and spectacles including SUP owner and dog tandem race heats and finals, a solo dog surfing comp and dog and owner fancy dress. There will be plenty for those who come along with the family, who can enjoy live music, indulge in the stalls, food and drink and have a great day out on the beach. There will also be an appearance from the world’s first ever paddleboard ice cream parlour (PUP).
Doors open 9.45am with competitions starting from 10am.
One of the judges who will be making the tough call on winners is Coast and One Show presenter, Miranda Krestovnikoff who will be bringing Nanuk, her pet pooch, with her.
The event is run by Bournemouth business Shakka Surf, which this year will have the support of Red Paddle Co as title sponsors. All competitors will race on inflatable Red boards which are designed for maximum stability and movement through the water.
The main stars will obviously be the dogs that will be a mixture of small dogs to huge hounds and everything in-between. The only requisites for entry are that the dogs need to have a level of competence on the boards for the safety of all competitors and are happy to be around other dogs and the ocean.
For spectators this is a ticketed event so visit https://facebook.com/events/s/dogmasters-2020-uk-dog-surfing/148055003292980/?ti=icl
