Donations urgently required for Arts University Bournemouth film hopefuls
A group of Bournemouth Film School (AUB) filmmakers from are urgently seeking funding to bring their movie dream to fruition.
Sci-fi comedy ‘The Landing Platform’ has a script, cast and crew are in place but filming and production is on hold due to a financial shortfall. The movie has missed out on backing that had previously been committed due to issues caused by the pandemic.
The creative team are still keen to get the project off the ground despite the setbacks, as the film focuses on several themes that have become increasingly prevalent during the pandemic, including loneliness, neediness, isolation and mental health issues.
The story is of Jacob, a struggling music store owner, who realises the key to finding love may not be on earth, but instead may lie somewhere in the stars. In the hope of finding an interplanetary romance, he builds the landing platform. Jacob waits to see whether his special someone does indeed hail from another dimension, or whether he should focus on his friendships elsewhere.
Writer and director, Hugo Dodd, said, “Though the idea has been in my mind for a while, I began writing the script just as we went into our first lockdown. I couldn’t help but relate my situation to Jacob’s because, at that moment I would have loved to escape the planet. In this strange time, Jacob’s struggles to connect with people is something that resonates with us all.”
Lead producer, Charlotte Rogers, said, “It’s a race against the clock to get cameras rolling for ‘The Landing Platform’, so we’re actively seeking donations to help bring this ambitious and poignant story to life.
“If we don’t receive the funding soon, we will lose everything we’ve worked so hard to secure, including getting the script, cast and behind-the-scenes team in place. We’ve been hampered by the pandemic but are determined to find more support – every penny counts and we’re so grateful to anyone who can donate.
“With everything that’s happened this year and the terrible times so many people have had to endure, we want our film to appeal to the audience as well as provide plenty of light-hearted moments.”
