A doorman has been jailed for 18 months after being convicted of a violent assault on a man in Weymouth.
Dane Brewer was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court yesterday, Monday 27 July, after being found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm on 9 July.
The court heard that in the early hours of Sunday 3 August last year Brewer was working as a member of security staff at Actor’s Bar in the town when he launched an unprovoked attack on a customer as he left the bar.
Brewer pushed the victim, a 52-year-old local man, through the doorway of the bar, causing him to fall backwards and onto the floor.
The victim was knocked unconscious in the attack and remained lifeless on the floor. He did not regain consciousness and was taken to hospital and placed in a medically-induced coma. Doctors found he had sustained a fractured skull and bleeding to the brain. He is still recovering from his injuries.
Detective Constable Siobhan Lovering, of Weymouth CID, said: “Brewer was working in a position of responsibility when he attacked an innocent man. This unprovoked assault left the victim with very serious injuries.
“Dorset Police will not tolerate such behaviour, especially from those who are supposed to be working to keep people safe.
“I hope this sentence sends out a very strong message that individuals who commit violence will be caught and brought to justice.”
