Mrs Eaton of Christchurch was presented with a new birdhouse and feeder from Castle Gardens for spotting the most species of bird in her garden, when she took part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch back in January.
In just one hour, the allotted time for the Birdwatch, Mrs Eaton spotted 16 species of bird in her garden in Christchurch, including three reed buntings, 56 sparrows and four starlings.
Mike Burks comments: “We are thrilled to present this prize to someone who spotted so many varieties of bird in their garden. It’s great to know that birds are thriving in Dorset thanks to bird friendly gardens such as Mrs Eaton’s. Our weather systems affect birds more than we imagine so a regular food supply is one simple, inexpensive step we can all make and the benefits for gardeners is immeasurable.”
