Dorset care home raises over £600 for NGS charities
A carefully tended garden at a Dorset care home has raised more than £600 for nursing and health charities.
The grounds of Colten Care’s Brook View in West Moors opened to the public over a sunny August weekend under the National Garden Scheme (NGS) and raised a healthy sum of money for charity.
The weekend attracted 64 visitors from the community. Brook View resident Sylvia Paddy, said: “The garden was proudly on display, the weather was lovely, the sun was shining and the day was just perfect.”
Colourful flower beds and borders, many tended by residents themselves with help from Colten Care’s gardening team, were on view.
Features included a pond, games lawn and greenhouse, and there was a plant stall, raffle and NGS garden quiz. Cakes were specially baked by Brook View chef Isabella Corbo.
The open weekend came a few weeks after a community get-together in the garden, held to celebrate Brook View’s 30th anniversary.
Home manager Abhishek Bagchi said: “Just like our recent anniversary event, the NGS open weekend was a great outdoor experience filled with laughter and community spirit.
“At the same time, we’re thrilled to have raised a total of £605 for NGS charities.”
