Dorset charity launches new play session for SEN children
Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability Charity, has launched a new service for children under five with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Young children in Dorset with Special Educational Needs (SEN) can look forward to new play sessions at The Treehouse facility operated by Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability Charity.
The new session, called Little Squirrels, is aimed at children under five years old with SEN or awaiting a diagnosis. The session will be held every Monday during term-time between 1pm and 2.30pm for children at The Treehouse on Merritown Lane, Christchurch, which is opposite Bournemouth Airport.
Little Squirrels sessions will feature singing, sensory activities and messy fun. There will be themed weekly activities with a focus on preparing children for school or nursery and building on their communication and engagement. The sessions will also provide a chance for parents to meet with other families going through similar experiences.
The Treehouse is a safe and enclosed environment and features facilities including a sensory room, changing places toilet, large soft play, role play areas and more.
Clare Rochford, children’s team manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “We’ve really seen a demand for sessions for children under five, so it is fantastic to be able to deliver these at The Treehouse and meet some new children and families.”
The session costs £5 per child and siblings are welcome to attend. There is no need to prebook. To find out more visit diverseabilities.org.uk/thetreehouse.
