Dorset charity treecycling scheme raises £35,000
Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity, collected and recycled 2,488 Christmas trees from the local Dorset and Hampshire community.
A Dorset charity has raised over £35,000 after it collected and recycled thousands of Christmas trees across Dorset and Hampshire.
Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity, ran its annual ‘Treecycling’ scheme from 8–11 January, collecting Christmas trees from the kerbside after the festive period in return for a donation from residents.
A total of 105 dedicated volunteers spent 840 hours collecting 2,488 Christmas trees from the local Dorset and Hampshire community.
The money raised will go directly to support children and adults with physical and learning disabilities.
As well as raising vital funds, recycling the Christmas trees saved around 50 tonnes of waste from landfill.
Diverse Abilities thanked Waste Management Facilities for its generous sponsorship of the scheme.
Francesca Potton, community fundraiser at Diverse Abilities, said: “We are overwhelmed by the support we have received this year from the volunteers and from the local community booking to have their Christmas trees collected by us.
“I want to say a huge thank you to Wessex Water, Avon Material Supplies, Halo Design, MATA Construction, Charles Trent, WMF and Plants for Trade who have volunteered their time over the weekend to help us collect a record number of Christmas trees.”
