Dorset County’s Poppy Appeal launched with a bang
AECC University College, in Boscombe, has had a Topping Out ceremony to mark the completion of the building structure that will house a new rehabilitation centre.
Following a parade through Pennys Walk, Ferndown on 29 October, led by Bournemouth Youth Marching Band, a short service attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell, was held in the Barrington Centre. After the two-minute silence a loud explosion signalled the release of a multitude of poppies that fluttered down from the ceiling. The Mayor of Ferndown, who hosted the event with the Ferndown branch of The Royal British Legion, launched the Poppy Appeal in Dorset by purchasing the first poppy, followed by Angus Campbell. This annual event, held at the Barrington Centre, was praised by The Royal British Legion. The Ferndown branch chairman thanked local people for being “very generous”. He also said that “a lot happens to make this happen” and he thanked all those people involved.
