To celebrate the beauty of the Dorset Countryside, the Campaign to Protect Rural England (Dorset branch) is launching a photo competition. The chairman of the trustees, Richard Nicholls, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone who loves the unspoilt magic of the Dorset countryside as we do, and can capture it on their camera or phone.”
Any entrant may send up to four photographs to CPRE and there will be a prize of £100 for the winner and £50 for the runner-up. Both will have their photographs shown in the Dorset CPRE Spring Review 2017 as well as on the Dorset CPRE website.
Rupert Hardy, also from CPRE, commented: “We want lots of memorable photos of our beautiful countryside, celebrated by Thomas Hardy among others, with its rolling chalk downland, secluded valleys and rare heathland, and not forgetting our spectacular coastline. Villages, historic buildings and ancient monuments are, of course, all essential ingredients of the Dorset landscape too. Remember photos taken near dawn and dusk, or ones under stormy skies can be very effective. Black and white, as well as colour, can be sent in and please do not just photograph the iconic sites, such as Corfe Castle.”
The Dorset CPRE Countryside Forum will judge the event in September and the winners will be announced in November at the Branch AGM. More details can be seen on the website, along with the competition rules at www.dorset-cpre.org.uk Entrants should read these before sending in photos to info@dorset-cpre.org.uk under the title “Dorset Photo Competition 2016 Entry” enclosing name and address. The closing date will be 14 September.
