Dorset Dragon Boat team to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Wimborne Minster, Bournemouth Pier, Christchurch Priory, Corfe Castle and Sherborne Abbey will be going pink in October.
Wimborne Minster is one of five places in Dorset which will be illuminated in pink in October.
It’s all part of Pink Champagne Breast Cancer Survivors Dragon Boat Team’s way of marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This annual global event aims to highlight the importance of routine screening to detect breast cancer early. It is now the second most commonly diagnosed cancer globally.
Pink is the defining colour of breast cancer and the campaign. Throughout the world and UK, buildings can be seen illuminated in pink during the month of October.
These landmark places in Dorset will be illuminated on the following dates:
1 October, Sherborne Abbey; all of October, The Ferris Wheel at Bournemouth Pier; 12 and 13 October, Wimborne Minster; 19 October, The Priory at Christchurch and 25 and 26 October, Corfe Castle.
The Dragon Boat Team hope that people will visit to see the illuminations and help spread the message further by sharing and posting photographs. The team, based at Hengistbury Head, is a group of 40-45 women who have all had breast cancer. You can read more about them at www.pinkchampagne.org.uk.
