Dorset Farmer donates £8,800 to local hospitals in wife’s memory
Local farmer Philip Trim made the donation to University Hospitals Dorset’s Radiotherapy services in honour of his late wife, Jane.

A local farmer has made a generous donation to University Hospitals Dorset’s (UHD) Radiotherapy services in honour of his late wife.
Philip Trim gave £8,800 to the NHS service in memory of Jane, who was cared for by UHD after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Trim described his late wife as a “hardworking cattle girl” who travelled up and down the country to attend shows and showcase her top-bred Charolais cattle. Her father was the village GP in Corfe Castle, and so she was determined to use the NHS system to support her during her journey with cancer.
The farmer recalled how Jane was impressed with the quality of service she received and how UHD “pulled out all the stops to make sure Jane received all the care she needed” before she passed away in 2018.
Trim said: “Our son, Ben, and I wanted to do something to give back to the Radiotherapy team at Poole Hospital by way of thanks, and for them to recognise that we as a family appreciated everything they had done for Jane. We wanted other families to benefit like we did, and we wanted to give a little something back to help others going through similar circumstances.”
Over the years, the farmer, his family and his business, Philip Trim Contractors, have raised over £80,000 for UHD NHS Charity, specifically the Radiotherapy department at Poole Hospital through various activities, including a tractor run on Jane’s birthday the year after she died, educational tractor and trailer rides around a campsite on his farm every August, and allowing a local metal detecting group, Dorset Past Finders, to detect on his land.
Trim added: “All of these events are a fantastic way of raising awareness and money to give back to the Radiotherapy department, and people have been keen to help and [are] so generous. I’m past running marathons for charity and so am using what we have got in front of me, my farm and campsite, to raise vital money for our local NHS charity and our community to benefit from.”
Hayley Harris, corporate fundraiser for UHD NHS Charity, said: “This recent donation from Philip and his family is incredibly moving. Jane’s story and the family’s commitment to supporting our hospitals highlight the profound impact our NHS services have on patients and their loved ones.”
The money will be used to enhance the radiotherapy services at Poole Hospital, providing comfort and cutting-edge care, above and beyond what standard NHS funding can cover, to patients undergoing treatment.
