Dorset MP picks Merley student’s design for official Christmas card
Mid Dorset & North Poole MP Vikki Slade picked Isla’s design featuring candy canes and a gingerbread man.
A Christmas card design by a student from Merley First School has been picked by the MP for Mid Dorset & North Poole as the winner of her annual Christmas card competition.
Vikki Slade said she was she was ‘overwhelmed’ by the creativity of pupils across her constituency and was impressed by the first-place winner Isla’s imaginative, colourful and bright design featuring candy canes and a gingerbread man.
Isla’s artwork has been printed on Slade’s official Christmas cards, which will be delivered by volunteers to homes across the constituency.
Slade visited both Merley First School and Bere Regis Primary School to congratulate Isla and present all the participants with certificates of achievement. Isla also received a teddy bear from the House of Commons along with a framed copy of her design signed both by Slade and the Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP.
Slade said: “It was a true honour to receive such a wonderful array of designs from the children that took part in this year’s annual Christmas Card competition. I am truly stunned by the incredible talent and creativity shown by all the children that took part.
“Isla’s design stood out due to how colourful and fun it was. I just loved the cheerful Gingerbread man holding a giant candy-cane lollipop next to a house made of sweets with a rainbow path!
“Visiting both schools and meeting these talented young artists has been a real highlight of the festive season. Congratulations to all who took part!”
