Dorset to mark the Covid-19 Day of Reflection
To mark five years since the start of the pandemic, Dorset Council is to hold an informal gathering in Dorchester.

Across the world, the Covid pandemic won’t be forgotten. Locally, Dorset Council is marking the National Day of Reflection with an informal gathering at Memorial Corner, outside County Hall in Dorchester at 11.55am on 9 March followed by a minute of silence at 12noon.
Residents are invited to the event to remember those who died during the Covid-19 pandemic and the sacrifices many made.
The event is hosted by the Chairman of Dorset Council Cllr Stella Jones, and HM Lord-Lieutenant Michael Dooley.
The Memorial Corner, which includes the existing War Memorial area, has been completely renovated and extended to include 11 new panels in memory of front-line workers who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.
People attending the event are encouraged to lay flowers at the panels and to stay and reflect if they wish.
Cllr Jones said: “The day will mark five years since the start of the pandemic that affected us all deeply.
“The service will provide an opportunity to come together, remember those that are no longer with us, and to honour the hard work of key workers and those who volunteered their time and showed acts of kindness during unprecedented times.”
More information about the day of reflection is available online at COVID-19 Day of Reflection 2025.
