Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is asking Dorset residents to take part in the wildlife trust’s ‘30 Days Wild’ initiative in June.
Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is asking Dorset residents to take part in the wildlife trust’s ‘30 Days Wild’ initiative, where everyone, everywhere is encouraged to do something wild each day for the 30 days in June, then enjoy the physical and mental health benefits resulting from spending more time outside with nature.
By carrying out ‘Random Acts of Wildness’ DWT is encouraging local people to do a different activity every day; whether it’s going for a walk next to a river, eating outside, meditating in a meadow or spending some time in your garden after work. 30 Days Wild is returning for the third year. In 2016, 30,000 people took part.
The 30 Days Wild pack, with a wall chart, goodies and inspiration is free and your pledge to be wild for 30 days doesn’t have to take up too much time – whether it’s for a few minutes or hours a day – a dose of nature, is still good for you.
The impact of taking part in 30 Days Wild has been tracked by academics at the University of Derby. Their study found that people who did something ‘wild’ each day for a month, felt happier, healthier and more connected to nature. All sorts of activities proved to have positive effects on their participants, from feeding garden birds to walking on the beach or in a meadow.
DWT communications officer Sally Welbourn, said, “We all know that by spending some time outside, perhaps after a stressful day at work or a busy day with our families, can make us feel better. So, why not record what you’re doing and make a commitment to doing it every day for a month? 30 Days Wild is suitable for anyone, of any age, any fitness level and with any level of interest in wildlife – it’s completely free and it could make you feel happier and healthier.”
