Dragon boat teams needed for Poole festival
Forest Holme Hospice Charity is looking for participants for the festival, which takes place on 6 June in Poole Park.
Poole Park Dragon Boat Festival takes place on Saturday 6 June, and Forest Holme Hospice Charity is looking for participants.
The event is open to teams of up to 17 people, made up of 16 paddlers and one drummer, who will race along a 200-metre course in three timed heats, with the fastest crews earning a place in the grand final. Each race lasts between 60 and 90 seconds, making for fast-paced action and a lively atmosphere throughout the day, with fancy dress encouraged.
Claire Cooper, events and challenges manager, said: “Events like the Dragon Boat Festival bring people together in such a positive and uplifting way. Every team that takes part for Forest Holme will be helping us continue to provide care, comfort and support to patients and families when they need it most. Last year, we even had our very own team of nurses, consultants and charity staff, and it was such a fun day with a real sense of community.”
Standard team entry is £450, which works out at around £26.50 per person based on a full team. Each team is also asked to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship, helping Forest Holme Hospice continue to provide care and support to patients and families across Poole, Wimborne and the Isle of Purbeck.
Claire said: “This event offers a fantastic opportunity for colleagues, friends and families to come together and enjoy an exciting day of racing, teamwork and friendly competition, all in support of a vital local cause. Spaces are limited, so early booking is strongly recommended.”
Participants must be aged 12 or over, with a minimum of 12 paddlers required. Full training and safety support will be provided on the day, making the event accessible to beginners as well as experienced crews.
