Drop in with your Weymouth Harbour tramline memories
Have you any Weymouth railway station memorabilia or memories of the harbour tramline? If so Dorset Coast Forum would love to hear from you.
Weymouth historians, railway enthusiasts and the community are invited to share their memories, stories and photos of Weymouth’s train station and harbour tramline.
Dorset Coast Forum is looking to create information panels and artwork for Weymouth train station and surrounding areas around the old harbour tramway line. This information will be a reminder of the local railway heritage for the community, and to tell the story to Weymouth’s visitors.
There will be a drop in event at Weymouth Library in Great George Street on Thursday 10 February, 2-4pm for you to pop in and chat about your memories or share photographs.
Notes will be made at the drop-in event to capture memories and stories or copy any photos that people are willing to share. Written permissions will be needed to be able to share information and consent forms will be available for signing on the day.
Dorset Coast Forum project officer, Steven Booth says: “We are looking forward to meeting local residents who have a story to tell or have local knowledge of the old harbour tramline or station. This is an opportunity to contribute to the railway heritage of Weymouth recognising the significance and contribution this has made to the town over the years”.
The railway heritage information will be the final phase of the Weymouth Station Gateway Improvement Scheme which is currently seeing the station forecourt under construction to improve the station’s pedestrian areas and shared path linking the Jubilee Business Park and King Street, called pocket park. The work is being carried out for the benefit of the local community and all users of the station to experience a more welcoming, attractive and safer environment with improved wayfinding and sustainable transport links.
The main construction and infrastructure work along with landscaping, planting is due for completion at the end of March 2022.
