Easier Access to Higher Education at The College

The Bournemouth & Poole College is offering Access to Higher Education courses for adults as a stepping stone to gaining higher qualifications.
The Bournemouth & Poole College is urging adults who are considering a career change, or wishing to gain further qualifications, to enrol onto an Access to Higher Education course.
Access to Higher Education diplomas are designed specifically for adults who are looking to study a higher education course, but may not have the relevant entry qualifications needed. The College offers a variety of Access courses in subjects ranging from forensic science to media.
Students aged 19 and over can also apply for the Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of the Access to Higher Education course. Once the student has successfully gained a degree after the Access course, the debt from the Advanced Learner Loan is completely written off.
Rob Davies, 43, who is currently enrolled onto the Access to Media course, said that he had previously worked in fabrication and welding jobs, before a cancer diagnosis made him re-assess life and he decided to go back into education.
He added, “The course has really triggered an interest in film and audio editing for me. I suppose I’ve been able to draw on experiences from a past career as a DJ, too.
“There are huge benefits in doing an Access to Higher Education course. I had lost a lot of confidence prior to enrolling on the course and it’s really helped me to build that back up. It’s one of the best things I have ever done.”
Tracey Griffin, director of learning, sixth form and access to higher education at The Bournemouth & Poole College, said, “We encourage anyone who is contemplating studying on a higher education course to seek the change they desire; whether this is by changing career or gaining further qualifications to invest in their future. An Access to Higher Education course is perfect for anyone wanting to make this change as the course equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to progress onto higher education.”
