As one of his last duties in his year of office, East Dorset District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Robin Cook has presented the first recipient with the Community Volunteer Award which he instigated.
The award has gone to John Hare-Brown, Secretary of Wimborne In Bloom. Not only has John been an active member of the organisation for several years, he has been seen several times a week pushing his barrow round the streets of Wimborne carrying out weeding and general cleaning. Also he had a serious illness and underwent major surgery last autumn.
The Award was presented at a meeting of East Dorset’s full council.
Cllr Robin Cook said: “I am glad to have started this award scheme and hope that chairmen in future years will continue with it. The standard of entries was very high but unfortunately there can only be one winner.”
